Weather is due to return to conditions “more in line” with the average, according to the state meteorological agency, apart from areas where there is still a lot of snow.

The cold snap that has left three record low temperatures in Spain this week is on its way out. That said, there are still 30 or so provinces in 12 of the country’s regions that are on a weather alert today, Thursday. Two of these territories, Aragón and Castilla-La Mancha, are on a red alert, the highest level, due to forecast temperatures of between -12 and -15ºC.

Storm Filomena brought heavy snowfall to many areas of Spain this past weekend, and was followed up by these unusually cold conditions. So far, the coldest temperature registered by Spain’s AEMET state meteorological agency was seen on Tuesday, when thermometers plummeted to -25.4ºC in Bello, in the province of Teruel (Aragón region).
